Q. |

Dr. Willis
I have seen advertisements for teeth whitening systems in places like tanning salons. Is it safe to have someone other than a dentist advise you about this? |

I too have noticed that teeth whitening is popping up at the mall, in Sam's, in tanning salons, and etc.
the problem with these places is they are not regulated by the department of professional regulations and so they are basically unsupervised. These places get away with doing the whitening by not touching the actual person and you have to apply the whitening solution your self. I have had two people come into our office this year complaining that they did the whitening, one at 'Sam's and the other at the mall, and it didn't work. I think you would do better with the over the counter whitening strip's.
thanks for the question,

Q. |

Is there ANY doctor in Florida that will take payments? After I was divorced I found out my ex-husband had taken out 3 different credit cards in my name and defaulted on all. I am fighting to have this removed from my credit report. As he passed away I cannot seek recourse from him. I need what can only be called an extreme smile makeover. I have always made sure my kids have wonderful teeth, all the while neglecting mine because I didn't have the means to pay for braces AND to fix my teeth. Now I have no choice as my front teeth are effected. I cannot get approved for credit but could easily make monthly payments. Can you help, please? It would literally save my life and my livelihood. Thank you... |

I have significant gaps in my teeth. I am 33. Is it too late to get cosmetic dental treatments? I was told I have lower than normal bone density. |

Hi,
its usually never too late to do cosmetic dentistry, age does determine the type of cosmetic dentistry.
But 33 is a great age, we love making a difference in someone's life.
give us a call, ask for jennifer, tell her we spoke via internet,
thanks

Q. |

Hi Doc, what is the price per vaneer. Also, how much for a consultation? |
|
Jenny, Tally 2/10/09
|
|

Hey those are very popular question,
the price per veneer has a range of 1100 to 1800, depending on many factors,
the consult also ranges from nc to 500,
if you just want me to look and say yes or no its nc.
if we spend a couple of hours together its 500.
hope that helped, give us a call

Q. |

The taste buds at the rear of my tongue have become suddenly swollen. I have not taken antibiotics in many years but I do smoke and have been under a lot of stress lately. At first the swelling was only on one side, now it is on both sides and this leaves me with a constant, gagging feeling, as if something is stuck in my throat. I've tried gargling with hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and mouth wash. Nothing seems to help. Also, just before this swelling occurred, I had a singular case of Hairy Tongue! I brushed normally one morning and it seemed the meat was coming right off my tongue in the form of long, black, hairy streaks. That cleared up quickly but the taste bud swelling has lasted almost month now. Any suggestions? And now that it's happened, is this likely a permant condition? I am age 53.... |

What is your cost for a teeth cleaning every 6 months? Havana, 1/31/09 |
|
Chris, Havana 1/31/09
|
|

Hi Chris, great Question, the cost depends on the type of cleaning, so without a complete examination to determine the type of cleaning that is right for you I do not know the cost.
Thanks

Hello there Doc, as one of your patients since 1995, and you have been treating my entire family and currently treating us--I do not like the idea of you and the family not making Tallahassee your home. Leaving is not an option--just letting you know--so just continue the good work here and all will be well.
Your patient who offered you and Carrie free entertainment while doing my full mouth restoration. Can you figure out who this log is from? Wish I was in Destin right now. Have a good day now!! |

Q. |

Dr. Willis, I have noticed that there is a relationship between upper back pain, neck pain, and tooth pain. It seems when the back hurts, the teeth start later. Or it might be the teeth that start and then the head, neck, and upper back. Simple, find the bad tooth or teeth, you cure that problem. But with referred pain, how do you rule out neck, upper back problems, lymph node problems, spine issues, etc. You know with referred pain, you can have a bad tooth, but every tooth in your mouth is feeling that pain. You have a heart attack, but it is your left arm that hurts.
My pain is so bad, it pulses like a slow cycle light which pulses. "Bong, bong, bong," "quiet please" Usually by the end of the day.
By then, every tooth in my mouth hurts, my head hurts, and my neck is stiff, and my upper back throbs. It is like bells going off in my head.
How do I stop it, or what would be the best course of action to start with and the best order to proceed? |

We treat these type of symptoms on a regular basis. It is amazing how most headaches and neck pain derive from a bad bite,
even most tooth aches are due to a malocclusion. if a tooth hurts for no apparent reason its usually bite related.
We have the technology to rule out and find where the pain is coming from. We feel confident can can help you.
Hope to see you.
