Q. |

when i was pregnant I started having problems with my sciatic nerve as a result every now and then it will rear its ugly head, my question is will it ever go away since i have given birth already? |
Sharon, Tallahassee, Florida 6/14/10

Sharon, Wow! That is a question for the ages. A lot of times the pregnancy sciatica goes away post natal. However a lot of times it does not. If the pain is going all the way down your leg you more than likely have at least a bulging disc. However, without the benefit of an examination I am only guessing. What you need to do is schedule with us or another chiropractic physician for an examination to determine what the underlying cause of your problem is. After that we should be able to give you a better answer as to if chiropractic or any other kind of medical treatment can help you. Thank you for your question.

Q. |

I'm currently working as an nurse's assistant and have nagging pain in my lower from lifting patients, are there any exercises I could do to alleviate stress to my back? |
Shay danalds, Tallahassee, Florida 6/08/10

Shay, It is difficult to diagnose your problem over the internet. Without the benefit of an examination I don't know what the underlying cause of your problem is. Typically I give patients the Williams Flexion Exercises. I do not like McKenzie for lower back pain. You can go to our website for a coupon for an examination. Thank you for your question.

Q. |

Dr fiorini,I have back pain on the lower right side.I cannot sit long without being bent until I can relax myself enough to be straight.Or without eating motrin on a daily basis. I cannot lay flat on my back without locking up.I was hospitalized a year or so ago for a different reason, but when the emergency rm. Doctor attempted to do a spinal tap he could not get to my spine. he said it was due to artheritis. A year later I began having pain in my left knee and foot and again went to the emergency rm. and had x-rays taken. I was told I had osteo-artheritis in my left foot and knee. Can you treat either of these and can this worsen without treatment? Thank you. |
anonymous, Tallahassee,fl 11/18/09

Actually yes this can get worse without treatment. I would have to say that it is probably not JUST arthritis. Very often the pain in the back, leg and foot are connected. There is a nerve that comes out of the spine that goes into your leg and foot. We have successfully treated these conditions in the past. Let me know if I can help. I hope this answers your question.

Q. |

Ok, it is Aching again. Do you manipulate by hand or use the activator thing? I do not use heat--always ice, and can this ever be "fixed"?
I just wondered if a new line of action could be done as in new adjuster, rehab, etc. |
Aching, Tallahassee, Florida 10/26/09

We utilize the Cox Flexion/Distraction technique which utilizes a special table to adjust. It is by hand. I would say that if your chiropractic physician has done good in the past then I would just go back to him/her and say that you really want to get it under control. If not, we would be happy to examine you.
Thank you again for your question.

Q. |

Hello, I suffer with sacroilitis. If I sit too long or stand for periods of time, I have a burning sensation and ache and pain. It even locked up when I was trying to start a walking routine. What can or do you suggest for this type problem. I have been adjusted periodically, but it never gets under control. |

Typically this problem is helped greatly with chiropractic adjustments. You probably need to be treated consistently for 4-6 weeks to get the best results. Also, if you have been using heat on the area you need to quit. Ice is better for this condition. The heat may actually make it worse. I hope this helps.

Q. |

why do you think my knee hurts and the pain radiates down to my foot? it isn't swollen and i don't remember hurting it. |
Anonymous 9/08/09

That is a very good question. Since I have not had the opportunity to examine you it will be difficult to answer. A thorough history needs to be taken and an examination should be performed. There can be a problem in your knee, lower back or in your neck believe it or not. It is also siginificant to note when the pain is present, what aggravates it and what makes it feel better. This is all part of a good history. I wish I could be more help. Like I said a complete consultation and examination should be performed to find out what is wrong. I hope I can be of service to you in the future.

Q. |

I have severe pain in the area of my tail bone to the cheeks of my rear when I walk or get up from sitting down. Sometimes it catches when I'm walking and I nearly fall. The pain will travel down the backs of both legs. Can you give me an idea of what may be causing this? |
Anonymous, Quincy, FL 8/09/09

Many times this type of pain can be caused by a condition called facet syndrome. This is a condition where the joints in the back part of your spine jam together irritating the joint and causing the pain. If the pain goes down your legs past your knees then the problem can be a disc buge/herniation putting pressure on the nerves that come out of the lumbar (lower back) spine. We treat conditions like this everyday at our clinic. Thank you for the question. I hope this helped.

Q. |

Dr. Fiorini,
Is chiropractic safe for women that are pregnant?
Thank you, |
Anonymous 7/30/09

Chiropractic is safe for the majority of people. Pregnancy offers some challenges. The chiropractic physician can still get a good history of the problem as well as perform an examination. We do not x-ray pregnant females at our office. The developing fetus is basically a bunch of rapidly dividing cells. The more rapid the cell division, the higher the risk of the radiation causing mutations of the cells. That is one of the challenges of treating pregnant women. So in a nutshell, chiropractic is safe for pregnant women. Thank you for your question.

Q. |

I have been experiencing dizziness for the last 6 months. It has gotten to the point that I cannot drive anymore. My doctor has told me that it has something to do with my ears. I have been performing exercises but they only seem to make my dizziness worse. Can chiropractic do something about this. |
Sue, Washington, MI 7/15/09

Sue,
I had a similar problem about 20years ago. I was actually manipulated by a chiropractor. She took my head in her hands and twisted my neck from side to side. This got rid of my headache. When I stood up I had a terrible dizziness and foggy feeling. I ended up going to see my friend's father who is a very well known chiropractic doctor in Atlanta. He invented the Atlas Orthogonal technique. He examined me and took x-rays. He then analyzed the x-rays very specifically. He adjusted me with the atlas orthogonal percussion adjusting instrument. I couldn't believe that this very light force could change anything. When I sat up from the adjustment the dizziness was completely gone! I have dedicated myself to learning how to adjust just like Dr. Sweat in Atlanta. The answer to your question is that we can probably help this condition. If we can't we will certainly get you to someone who can help you. I hope this helped you understand better.
